Digitization and communication of patient information is essential to ensuring efficient, comprehensive, high-quality and client-centered healthcare. eHealth refers to the utilization of information and communications technologies that support the delivery of health services across the care continuum. eHealth solutions can range from public health information systems, electronic medical record (EMR) systems, hospital information systems and national or jurisdictional electronic health records (EHRs).
EHRs are the cornerstone of the eHealth approach, and enable real-time patient information access and exchange between care providers across healthcare facilities. Our team has designed and led high-profile EHR adoption and integration projects across public hospitals and allied health facilities. These projects have involved digitizing patient administration systems, laboratory and radiology data, pharmaceutical and therapeutic data; ensuring compliance to national and international interoperability standards; and implementing digital communications systems for real-time, remote patient monitoring.

Large-scale implementation of eHealth solutions is complex and has high failure rates globally. The introduction of eHealth solutions into health care ecosystems causes significant changes in people, processes, and structures. Adoption of eHealth solutions requires both individual and organizational transformation. Interprofessional and patient stakeholder consultation is essential to ensuring successful design and implementation of eHealth solutions.
